Information:
It began as a small craft market in 1974, beside the canal in the centre of Camden Town, north-west London. Today, Camden Lock Market is a conglomeration of shops and stalls overflowing with colourful goods - particularly alternative fashion. This phenomenal multi-ethnic shopping Mecca comprises seven markets, liberally interspersed with restaurants, bars, clubs and pubs, which draws tourists from all over the world. Weekends are the best time to visit Camden Market, when there's always something on the go from opening time at around 10am - although trading hours are casually observed. Chief draw card on Sunday is the indoor 'Electric Ballroom' fashion market, which opens Sundays only; the exceptionally buzzing Camden Lock Village market trades Fridays through Sundays. Weekday markets are quieter, but no less lively. Take the Northern Line on the Underground to Camden Town or Chalk Farm stations, or hop a bus from most parts of central London.
