Information:
Situated in London's West End, the Duchess Theatre is renowned as one of the smallest Proscenium Arch theatres of the city's entertainment centre. Apart from the arch, which frames the stage, effectively separating it from the paying public, the theatre's design is also unusual in that the stalls are built below street level in an effort to adhere to the neighbour's ancient right to adequate natural illumination. Opened in 1929, the theatre has a long list of notable productions, including a host of Agatha Christie plays, TS Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral, Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, which enjoyed a record run of close on 2000 performances, and the rather risque production, Oh Calcutta. The closest tube station is Covent Garden on the Piccadilly Line. Alternatively, use overland rail as far as Charing Cross, then take the Northern Line to Leicester Square and change to the Piccadilly Line for Covent Garden.
