Information:

The gilded, moulded confines of the Garrick Theatre, in Charing Cross Road at the heart of London's West End, have absorbed the laughter and gasps of hundreds of thousands of theatre-goers since it opened its doors in 1889. Financed by W.S. Gilbert, author of more than 75 plays, designed by Walter Emden, and named for Shakespearian actor, David Garrick, what is possibly London's most 'kitsch' theatre opened its overly-ornate, gold-leaf Renaissance-style auditorium with a play by Arthur Wing Pinero, The Profligate. The Theatre gained a reputation for comedy and melodrama, and stage designer, Carl Toms, restored it in 1986. Some of the greatest names associated with West End Theatre have been involved in productions at the Garrick in the past century. The closest Underground stations to the Garrick are Leicester Square - Northern and Piccadilly lines, Charing Cross - Northern and Bakerloo lines, and Embankment - District and Circle lines.
