Information:
Grosvenor Square is a famous garden square in London's upmarket district of Mayfair. The centrepiece of the Dukes of Westminster's Mayfair property, it is named after them. In 1721, Sir Richard Grosvenor developed Grosvenor Square and the streets around it, and until WWII it was one of London's trendiest addresses, home to many of the city's principle aristocrats. Modern buildings have replaced most of the old houses, but the park, once reserved for those who dwelt around it, is now open to the public. John Adams, envoy to the Court of St James, started the tradition of American official presence there, when he stayed in a house on the corner of Duke and Brook streets between 1785 and 1788. The Square is now the American Embassy's location. Public transport is available at Victoria bus station, Victoria train station and Bond Street Underground station, as well as numerous London bus routes.
