Information:
Operated as a museum ship by the Imperial War Museum, HMS Belfast is listed as part of the National Fleet, Core Collection, and is permanently moored near Tower Bridge, in the Pool of London on the River Thames. One of the largest and most powerful Royal Navy light cruisers of its day, HMS Belfast saw action in both WWII and the Korean War. Destined for the scrap yard, HMS Belfast was eventually saved from destruction by the private HMS Belfast Trust, and has been a popular London attraction, with over 250,000 visitors per year, since 1971. The museum is divided into three mains sections, which are 'Life on Board the Ship', 'The Inner Workings' and 'Action Stations', which showcases the ship's armament and command facilities. Permanent exhibitions include 'Life at Sea' and the 'HMS Belfast in War and Peace'. The closest London Underground stations are Tower Hill and London Bridge.
