Information:
HMS Wellington is a former Royal Navy Grimsby-class sloop. She is moored alongside the Victoria Embankment, on the River Thames in London, where she is the floating Livery Hall of a company of seafarers, the Honourable Company of Master Mariners. Known today as HQS Wellington, the sloop was a convoy escort ship in the North Atlantic in World War II, and played a crucial role in Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk in 1934. There is a vast collection of historic artefacts on board, such as rare, antique sextants, telescopes and chronometers, as well as George and Victoria Cross medals won by members. A library containing a range of nautical subjects, from the works of Joseph Conrad to Lloyd's Register of Ships, is yet another on-board treasure. The closest London Underground stations are Temple, Blackfriars and City Thameslink, which are all within an easy stroll of HMS Wellington.
