Information:
The Hayward Gallery is one of the iconic visual arts venues of the popular Southbank Centre. It shares its location and status with a number of other significant venues, such as the Royal Festival Hall, Purcell Room and Saison Poetry Library. The Gallery has, in the past, exhibited visual art from all periods, including works by the French Impressionists but, more recently, major exhibitions have concentrated on contemporary art, which complements the building, an example of post-modernist, Brutalist architecture. The Hayward Gallery hosts a number of temporary exhibitions each year and, unlike many of its counterparts, it doesn't have a permanent collection. Recent exhibitions have included art works by Brazilian artist, Ernesto Neto, American minimalist, Dan Flavin and English sculptor, Antony Gormley. The Gallery is best accessed by public transport, with Waterloo, Waterloo East and Charing Cross railway stations within walking distance. The closest tube stations are Waterloo and Embankment.
