Information:

There has been a London Bridge on, or close to, the same site as the current one since the Roman occupation, and up until 1729 it was the only bridge over the River Thames downstream of Kingston. Opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973, London Bridge is 860 ft long and 107 ft wide, and carries five lanes of the A3 motorway. Owned and maintained by an independent charity, the Bridge is illuminated with red lights after dark, creating an impressive sight. Once the location where the severed heads of traitors were displayed on pikes, London Bridge is often mistaken for Tower Bridge. Rebuilt through the ages, London Bridge has been destroyed by the ancient British Queen, Boudicca, the London Tornado of 1091, and fire. Monument and London Bridge tube stations are situated on the north and south ends of the bridge respectively, and London Bridge Railway Station is nearby.
