The London Eye is to London what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris or the Statue of Liberty is to New York, a dominant city attraction that appeals to literally millions of tourists each year. Situated on the South Bank of the River Thames in the London Borough of Camden, the London Eye looks very much like a gigantic bicycle wheel and, at 443 ft; it is one of the tallest observation wheels in the world. Rotating at 10 inches per second, the London Eye comprises 32 sealed and air conditioned pods capable of accommodating a maximum of 25 people apiece. At night, LED lighting illuminates it, creating a hauntingly beautiful spectacle. Opened in 1999, the London Eye is well serviced by a range of public transport, including London buses 12, 53, 148, 159, 211 & 453. The London Underground stations of Waterloo and Westminster are within easy walking distance.
