Information:

A spectacular neo-classical building dating from the late 18th century, Somerset House overlooks the Thames in central London, to the east of Waterloo Bridge. Built on the site of a medieval manor commissioned by the Duke of Somerset, the impressive building was used for public offices for decades, until the 1990s, when it gained a new lease on life as a centre for the visual arts. Somerset House hosts a continual programme of concerts, films, art and design exhibitions and workshops. In summer, 55 fountains play in the courtyard, then it becomes a winter wonderland with the annual installation of London's most popular ice-skating rink. Open daily, Somerset House can be accessed from Victoria Embankment, Waterloo Bridge or from the Strand. The nearest Underground stations are Temple, Covent Garden, Charing Cross and Embankment. Buses stop in the Strand, or use the river buses that stop at Embankment or Savoy piers.
