Information:
The Knights Templar built the Temple Church as their headquarters in England in the latter part of the 12th century, and it is situated between the River Thames and Fleet Street. Today, the Middle Temple and Inner Temple Inns of Court use the church. It's famed for being a round church, and for its carved tombs. During WWII, it was badly damaged, but has been mostly restored. The district surrounding the Temple Church is called the Temple, and Temple tube station and Temple Bar are nearby, all of which owe their names to the church. The Temple Church's round nave stems from Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the adjacent rectangular Chancel was added about half a century later. The church features in Dan Brown's novel, The Da Vinci Code, and was one of the film's locations. Blackfriars and Temple tube stations are just a few hundred metres away.
